Nothing seemed to fall into place. I wasn’t connected to myself, and that showed in the studio – art just couldn’t happen that way. Through structures, gestures, and repetitions, I tried to get closer again. Out of that came the series Touching the Core. No colours, no distractions. It fits the feeling of having to go back to the core. And yet it’s not only about black and white, but also about presence and absence, loud and quiet, weight and lightness. The circles, darkenings, and brushstrokes emphasise the body in the painting process – immediate energy, sometimes like an imprint, sometimes like the echo of a movement. Touching the Core is a search for clarity. An attempt to hold on to patterns and structures, while at the same time realising that much dissolves again, that nothing stays completely in order. I attach great importance to quality and only use high-quality artist materials. Ink on paper and wood, sealed with wax. Size: 15.2 x 15.2 x 3.8 cm each (4 pieces) Signed and dated on the reverse.
