My interviewee this week, Anita Griebl, has been helping people discover their own creativity for years. For her, painting is a joyful expression of intuition and emotions.
She sees it as an invitation to embrace ease. In her workshops, she encourages participants to engage with the creative process without pressure, and to simply enjoy the act of playing with colours.
Introduction
What’s your name?
My name is Anita Griebl, I’m married and have two grown-up children.
Where do you live?
As a healing energy practitioner, purpose coach, and anger management expert, I live and work in Niederwinkling, Lower Bavaria.
What kind of art/creativity do you mainly practise? (Painting, sculpture, photography, digital design, etc.)
I’ve been painting since 1999, starting with watercolour and later moving on to acrylic on canvas.
Have you completed any formal training, or are you self-taught?
For my painting hobby, I’ve attended various workshops with different artists, where I learned a lot and tried out new techniques. We also took part in exhibitions. Most of what I know, I’ve learned without formal training, continuing to develop my skills on my own.
Where can people see your work? Do you have a website or social media profiles you’d like to share?
My paintings hang in my home and are not shared on social media. They also don’t appear on my website. Instead, I promote my energy painting workshops, which I hold each summer. There, participants can paint their own soul painting, which is revealed to them after my guided meditation. Since I’m an energy worker, energy plays a big role in all my workshop offerings.
You’re creative. Why?
How did you get into art? Where did your creative journey begin?
I see myself as a creative life artist and energetic guide, bringing all of my experiences to the table to remind people of their natural creativity and authenticity.
What inspires you?
Energy work and my intuition inspire me to help those seeking guidance become aware of what is, and how they can make changes. For example, people come to me claiming they can’t paint because that’s what they were told in school. After attending one of my energy painting workshops, some of them discover a new hobby and a newfound joy in painting. During the workshop, any blocks that surface are worked through, and processes of personal development are initiated, bringing more lightness and joy to life.
Are there any particular artists or styles that influence you?
My inspiration doesn’t come from other artists, but rather from my intuition, ideas, and insights. I follow and express my own energetic style.
What does your creative process look like?
Which materials and tools do you prefer to use, and why?
I enjoy working with acrylics on canvas and often use texture paste to give the painting more depth and a three-dimensional quality.
Is there a particular project or piece that holds special meaning for you?
My works are snapshots of moods and have different meanings. These change constantly as I continue to evolve. That’s why I don’t have specific projects that I hold onto. They’re processes that naturally resolve themselves over time.
What has been the biggest challenge you’ve had to overcome as an artist?
My biggest challenge was my first exhibition in a clinic, where I participated with a painting group. It was a very exciting and new experience for me.
How important is connection and interaction with other artists and creatives to you?
For me, networking and mutual support are incredibly important and valuable. I had my logo and flyer designed by an artist who also works with energy.
What does art mean to you? What role does it play in your life?
Our daughter is studying art therapy in Bremen and will complete her studies in the summer of 2025. Because of this, art plays an even bigger role in our family, as we fully support her. Katrin has her own unique style.
What role do you believe art plays in society? What responsibilities do artists have in society?
I believe art is very important in society because it brings more life, freedom, and possibilities into our world. Art is about ability—about bringing out what’s inside you and letting it come to light.
What themes are important to you? Is there a particular theme or message you aim to convey through your art?
My themes are energy, emotions, and nature. So, my message is to live more naturally, to express suppressed creativity, and to release buried emotions.
Through my work, I aim to help raise awareness and support personal growth. Art is a valuable tool for this, helping to inspire a shift in thinking within society.
